Overview Message Centre



The message centre receives messages and distributes them. It defines who receives a message and by which route. When a message is created and what its text says is defined by the function block Message.

One block is created per project. All message blocks in the project use it automatically, no wiring between them is required.

Delivery follows the priority of the message. There are four priorities – information, warning, alarm and critical – and one separate assignment to the recipients per priority. This allows, for example, information to go only by e-mail to the building technician while an alarm additionally goes as a push message to the standby service.

Five routes are available: e-mail, notification to the uni-PRO APP, NTFY, Pushover and IFTTT. The centre uses the same services as the individual sending blocks; those blocks are unchanged and can still be used on their own.

Setup:

Quiet hours: Quiet hours from/to can be entered per recipient. A period across midnight (for example 22:00 to 06:00) is handled correctly. If both times are equal there are no quiet hours. A message with priority Critical breaks through the quiet hours if the parameter Critical breaks through quiet hours is set.

Repeat block: A time in minutes within which the same message is sent only once. It is the parameter Repeat block of this block and applies to all messages in the project.

"The same message" means: the same message block at the same escalation level. Two different message blocks therefore never block each other, and an escalation continues even if its first level would currently be blocked. The time of the last delivery is stored permanently and survives a restart of the controller.

Recipient groups: Every recipient belongs to one or more of eight groups. The groups are used by the escalation levels of the message block: level 1 goes to the normal assignment, every further level to the group entered there.

The eight groups come preset with the roles that are common in a larger installation: building services, standby duty, service contractor, site management, property management, security service, control room and company management. The order follows the usual path of an escalation, from the first level to the one called last. This is only a suggestion: the button Rename groups... on the Recipients tab allows the names to be changed freely. The name then appears wherever groups are selected – including the escalation levels of the Message block. A name left empty means that the group is shown under its number.

Note on the uni-PRO APP: Unlike the other routes the recipient is not held in the project but results from the devices that have registered with this controller. The column APP devices selects which of them are meant; if the selection stays at All, the notification goes to every registered device. Devices that register later are automatically included with the setting All, but not with a fixed selection.

A device is addressed by the user logged on in the APP. If no login is set up there, the ID of the device at the push service is used instead; the selection shows it in a column of its own. That ID is not permanent though: Google and Apple issue a new one as soon as the APP is reinstalled or its storage is cleared. After that the message no longer reaches this device and it has to be selected again. Where reliability matters, a login in the APP is the better choice.

A rising edge sends a test message to all active recipients using every route stored for them. Quiet hours, weekdays and the repeat block are ignored.

Parameters

Recipients and assignment
Opens the editing dialog with the three tabs Recipients, Assignment and Preview.
Mail delivery
  • Centre sends: The centre sends the e-mail itself to the address stored with the recipient.
  • only switch output: The centre does not send but only switches output MA. The delivery is then built with a separate Send mail block.
  • off: This route is not used.
APP delivery
As Mail delivery, for the notification to the uni-PRO APP (output PU).
NTFY delivery
As Mail delivery, for NTFY (output NT).
Pushover delivery
As Mail delivery, for Pushover (output PO).
IFTTT delivery
As Mail delivery, for IFTTT (output IF).
Repeat block
Time in minutes within which the same message is sent only once. 0 switches the block off. This means the same message block at the same escalation level.
Critical breaks through mute
If the parameter is set, messages with priority Critical are delivered even while input ST is present.
Critical breaks through quiet hours
If the parameter is set, messages with priority Critical are delivered during the quiet hours of a recipient as well.
IFTTT webhooks key
Key of the IFTTT account. It applies to all recipients and is shown on ifttt.com in the Webhooks service on the documentation page.
IFTTT event
Name of the event used by a recipient without an own entry. A different event name can be entered per recipient in the recipient table.

Fields of the recipient table

Name
Freely chosen name. It appears in the assignment and in the preview and is not sent along.
Active
Only an active recipient receives messages. This allows somebody to be switched off temporarily without deleting the row and its assignment.
Mail address
Recipient address for the mail route. If the field is left empty this route is not possible for the recipient; the column is then shown in grey in the assignment.
APP push
The recipient is to receive the notification to the uni-PRO APP. The tick box switches the route on, which devices are meant is set in the next column.
APP devices
The button shows the selected devices and opens the selection when clicked. The selection fetches the list of registered devices from the controller, so a connection to it is required. If the button reads All, the notification goes to every device registered with this controller. Otherwise it states the number of selected devices; which ones they are is in the tooltip.
NTFY topic
Topic under which the message is published. The controller puts its serial number in front, as with the block PUSH message NTFY. Empty = route not possible.
Pushover key
User key of the Pushover account. It is shown on the start page of pushover.net after logging in. Empty = route not possible.
IFTTT event
A different event name for this recipient. If the field is left empty, the name from the parameter IFTTT event applies. The key is always held centrally.
Weekdays
Seven tick boxes. Delivery only takes place on the days that are ticked. If no day is ticked, the recipient receives nothing.
Quiet hours from / to
Start and end of the quiet hours. If both times are equal there are no quiet hours. A period across midnight is allowed, for example 22:00 to 06:00.
Groups
The button shows the groups of the recipient and opens the selection of the eight groups when clicked. With several groups it shows the first one followed by the number of the others; the full list is in the tooltip. A recipient may be in several groups. The groups are used by the escalation levels of the Message block and can be named freely with the button Rename groups...

Priority: The priority of a message is passed on to the individual services. With NTFY, information corresponds to priority 3, warning and alarm to priority 4 and critical to priority 5. With Pushover, information and warning correspond to priority 0, alarm to priority 1 and critical to priority 2; at priority 2 Pushover repeats the message until it is confirmed.

Limits: The usual hourly and daily limits of the controller apply to NTFY, Pushover, IFTTT and e-mail. They apply jointly to all senders, including the message centre. When a limit is reached, output FE counts up.

Data protection: Mail addresses and keys are stored in the project. They never appear in the diagnostic output of the controller, which only shows the number of the recipient.
